Brand strategist for companies seeking to evolve

I work independently and as a part of the creative studio Out of Office on branding projects for companies of all sizes. This sometimes means building a brand identity from scratch. (My favorite.) It can also mean taking a look at an existing brand and figuring out how to give it new life. (Also my favorite.) Brand is foundational to business success. Don’t skip it. Here are two notable projects of many.

Hacking Finance

When I joined Anthemis, I discovered another brand lurking in the shadows: Hacking Finance. Inspired by the annual retreat of the same name held in Méribel, France, I created an integrated media platform to activate the innovators inside financial services and bring new faces and voices to the conversation. At its peak, Hacking Finance delivered original content about the big themes in, and intersecting, finance via its website, weekly email, podcast, and events series. I also conceived of and created the eponymous award-nominated literary magazine, whose premier (and so far only) issue was stocked on the shelves of independent bookstores around the world, including McNally Jackson and Magculture. Hacking Finance was my first collaboration with my incredible design partners Mark Pernice and Elana Schlenker of Out of Office. Gilded Audio

As part of my ongoing collaboration with Out of Office, we recently partnered on a brand refresh project for an incredible podcast and engineering studio based in New York, Gilded Audio. I ran the up-front portion of the identity work, teasing out important themes from interviews with the founder, team, and clients past and present. We uncovered opportunities to focus the go-to-market message to a specific target audience without losing the brand’s sense of style and humor. The refined messages and brand tone and voice direction were key in setting up the success of the visual identity work, led by Mark and Elana.
